Abstract / Resumen

Abstract. In the present studio it is analysed the main parameters of reproductions belonging to the wild boar Sus scrofa L., in order to determinate a model of reproduction for the specie applicable to the Cantabrian Mountains. The analysis has its base in the information obtained during the cynegetic activity in the Alava Historical Territory (North of Spain) between 1990 and 1997. It was made from both, specimens in the summer night waiting and specimens in the hunting battues during the winter season. The analysis mainly is founded in the date of the age, by means of a teeth cut and the number of deposal of the first incisor or by the substitution of teeth pieces in the case of the younger individuals. In total, it has been analysed 673 jaws of wild boars, belonging to 308 males, 346 females and 19 exemplars with unknown sex. The birth date of each one estimated is of ±3 months (Markina 1998). The results obtained from this studio indicate that the high percentage of births in the population of wild boars would be between November and April, with a maximum in January and in February (29,5%) and a minimum in September, though it is a fact that there are labours during the whole year. Respect to the rut, it is produced at the beginning of the autumn, with a maximum at the end of September, decreasing as the winter goes by. The mean of production of the population analysed is 3,86±0,22 foetuses per female.
