Resumen. Se presentan los resultados del primer estudio a escala regional sobre la distribución y estatus de los mamíferos carnívoros en la Región de Murcia. El trabajo se ha basado en la recopilación de datos de observaciones a través de revisiones bibliográficas y encuestas a naturalistas. Se ha obtenido un total de 389 referencias sobre nueve especies, ocho de presencia segura y una, el lince ibérico, de presencia no confirmada. De las especies de presencia segura, seis (zorro, tejón, garduña, comadreja, gineta y gato montés) se encuentran ampliamente distribuidas y dos (nutria y turón) presentan una distribución más restringida. La mayor diversidad de carnívoros aparece en las áreas de montaña de la Vega del Segura, donde existen zonas montañosas y cursos de agua permanentes. Se considera urgente la realización de estudios para conocer la situación del turón en la Región de Murcia, aplicar metodologías para el seguimiento a largo plazo de las especies, así como investigar el aislamiento poblacional y estado sanitario de las poblaciones de nutria.

Abstract. A survey of the distribution and status of carnivorous mammals in the Region of Murcia is carried out at a regional scale for the first time. The study is based on a compilation of data taken from bibliographic revisions and interviews to naturalists. A total of 389 references is obtained on nine species, eight with a confirmed presence and one, the Iberian lynx, not confirmed. Of those species
whose presence is confirmed, six (red fox, badger, stone marten, common weasel, common genet and wild cat) are widely distributed and two (otter and polecat) are more restricted in their distribution. The greatest diversity of carnivores is found in the mountain areas of Vega del Segura, with its mountains and permanent flows of water. Urgent studies are needed to assess the real situation of polecat in the region, to investigate the isolated nature and sanitary state of the existing otter populations, and the development of methods to survey the distribution and population trends of this species at long-term.
